Republican Lawmaker Exits Minnesota Governor Race Citing Political Establishment
Republican state Rep. Kristin Robbins, chair of the Minnesota House Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Committee, has dropped out of the Minnesota governor’s race, announcing she will continue serving her district but fight for the state “from outside of the political system.”
Robbins, who represents District 37A in Maple Grove and has held the seat since 2018, issued a candid letter this week accusing the state’s “establishment political class, media and donors” of anointing Senator Amy Klobuchar as the front-runner despite her alleged refusal to meaningfully engage on critical issues. Robbins declined to endorse any candidate as she exits the race.
Klobuchar Launches Ambitious Statewide Fraud Prevention and Modernization Plan
Immediately following Robbins’s withdrawal, the Klobuchar campaign unveiled a comprehensive plan designed to tackle fraud and abuse across Minnesota’s state government. The former prosecutor’s initiative includes more than 40 proposals, highlighted by a full audit of state agencies to root out waste and misconduct.
Amy Klobuchar said, “Minnesotans are right to be angry about fraud. It’s absolutely unacceptable.”
Klobuchar’s plan also calls for an overhaul of decades-old IT infrastructure, transforming state services into a mobile-first experience aimed at boosting efficiency and transparency.
“We need a government that can carry its weight and match your drive and ambition. A government that solves problems, not causes them,” Klobuchar emphasized, “A government that guards taxpayer dollars instead of allowing them to be misspent or stolen.”
Political Rival Warns Klobuchar’s Win Would Mean Another Walz Term
Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth, who is also vying for the governorship, fired back at the Klobuchar campaign’s rollout, cautioning voters that electing Klobuchar would be akin to a third term for Governor Tim Walz, signaling a continuation of current policies rather than a change.
