Suspect Charged with Involuntary Manslaughter in Niles Shooting
UPDATE: A suspect has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting that took place on Thursday at a home in Niles, Illinois. Authorities have confirmed that Markus G. Horenberger, a 52-year-old resident of Glenview, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter following the tragic incident.
The shooting occurred on October 26, 2023, at approximately 5:40 PM in the 8400-block of Greenwood Avenue. Niles police responded to reports of gunfire and discovered a male victim who had sustained critical injuries. Despite immediate medical attention, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police officials have stated that the shooting appears to be an isolated incident, assuring the community that there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Horenberger was taken into custody shortly after the incident and is scheduled to appear in court today.
The investigation is being carried out by the Niles Police Department Investigations Division in collaboration with the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force.
