Georgia Tech Smashes Kennesaw State, Sets Historic 37-7 Record
Kennesaw, Ga. – Georgia Tech exploded out of the gate to overpower Kennesaw State 10-7 Tuesday night, delivering the best 44-game start in program history with a dominant 37-7 record. The Yellow Jackets erupted for five runs in the first inning and never looked back at Mickey Dunn Stadium, rewriting school records and showcasing an electric offense that has taken college baseball by storm this season.
Inside the first inning, Georgia Tech set an immediate tone, stringing together hits from six of the first eight batters and sending 10 runners across the plate overall. Junior Drew Burress went 3-for-6, including a massive three-run homer that widened the lead to 8-4, as Georgia Tech tallied its 25th double-digit scoring game of the season. Every Yellow Jackets batter who appeared reached base, a testament to their relentless offense.
Record-Breaking Offense Dominates Early
The Jackets now boast an astonishing 467 runs this season, the most in program history through 44 games and also the highest total for any Power 4 team since 2011 under BBCOR bat standards. Their offensive metrics are off the charts, currently pacing for a potential school record batting average of .356, on-base percentage of .469, slugging percentage of .618, and an average of 10.6 runs per game—shattering previous benchmarks.
This offensive onslaught comes alongside an unprecedented run differential: Georgia Tech is outscoring opponents 467-210, a plus-258 margin never before achieved over this span in program history. This season alone, they have scored 10 or more runs in more than half their games, asserting dominance particularly in night contests with a 20-1 record after 6 p.m. starts.
Standout Players Lead the Surge
Drew Burress continues his breakout, extending a seven-game hit streak and setting career-best numbers. His ninth home run of the season puts him within shouting distance of the top four all-time Georgia Tech home run leaders. He also leads the ACC with 61 runs scored and has 170 career RBIs, nearing the program’s top 20. Junior Jarren Advincula leads Division I with 79 hits and is on track to become the first Yellow Jacket with 100 hits in a season since 2005. Meanwhile, Carson Kerce, recently moved to the leadoff spot, has contributed 21 multi-hit games this season and is tied for the Georgia Tech BBCOR-era single-season record in doubles.
Vahn Lackey hit his first career 50 RBI season with timely hits Wednesday, while sophomore Will Baker and junior Kent Schmidt also delivered key multi-hit performances, fueling the relentless offense.
Pitching and Defense Hold Off Late Rally
On the mound, relief pitcher Justin Shadek delivered a strong three innings with six strikeouts, bouncing back from a recent tough outing. Senior Caden Spivey secured the win with 2.1 innings of relief, while closer Mason Patel sealed the game with his sixth save of the season, showing dominant form since returning from injury this year.
Georgia Tech has won 15 straight games in Georgia and remains on a tear with six consecutive wins and 19 triumphs in their last 21 games. Head coach James Ramsey now owns the best record through 44 games in program history as the Jackets continue their historic run.
What’s Next for Georgia Tech
After this momentum-building win, Georgia Tech will host a three-game weekend series against Xavier at Russ Chandler Stadium, where the Jackets are riding a 13-game home winning streak—the second longest active in the nation. The series runs Friday through Sunday with a 7 p.m. first pitch on ACCNX.
For Montana readers and college baseball fans nationwide, the Jackets’ record-setting pace signals a team firing on all cylinders as they aim for a deep postseason run and potentially historic season milestones in 2026.
“This team continues to write history with every game,” said Coach Ramsey after the game. “Our offense and pitching are clicking, and the guys are playing like champions.”
