Los Angeles witnessed a thrilling high school football matchup on October 18, 2025, as the Bishop Amat Lancers triumphed over the Loyola Cubs with a score of 30-14. The victory was propelled by the impressive performance of junior quarterback Domenico Doran, who demonstrated his dual-threat capability in his first official start since transferring from Servite.

Doran was instrumental in the Lancers’ success, throwing for 141 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 122 yards. His standout moment came in the closing minutes of the game, when he executed a 50-yard touchdown run that solidified the win. “They were just focused on Ryan,” Doran noted, referring to his teammate, Ryan Salcedo, who was heavily marked throughout the game. “When you face our offense now, you kind of have to face a dual-threat quarterback too.”

Bishop Amat’s head coach, Kory Minor, expressed pride in Doran’s development. “He was at the lowest of the low in spring and in summer, and he didn’t waver, he didn’t cry, and he didn’t complain,” Minor said. Doran’s resilience paid off, marking a pivotal moment for both him and the team as they improved their record to 5-3 and 2-1 in the Mission League.

Strategic Play and Defensive Highlights

The Lancers faced a considerable challenge from the Cubs, who aimed to contain Salcedo, a strategy that initially paid off as he finished with just 41 yards on 12 carries. Nevertheless, his contributions included a touchdown reception, leading to an all-purpose total of 102 yards. Doran opened the scoring with a 58-yard keeper, setting the stage for Salcedo’s six-yard touchdown pass.

Bishop Amat’s defense stepped up, with Seth Tellez intercepting Loyola quarterback Gavin Grabe and returning it 37 yards for a touchdown, extending the lead to 13-0 just before halftime. The Lancers capped off the half dramatically with a 35-yard touchdown pass from Doran to Jaiden Combal, leaving them ahead 20-0 at the break.

Loyola regrouped in the second half, mounting a long drive that culminated in a 14-yard touchdown run by Kane Casani, who finished the game with 128 yards and two touchdowns. The Cubs narrowed the deficit to 20-14 after scoring quickly following a Bishop Amat fumble.

Despite the pressure, the Lancers maintained their composure. A field goal by Noah Guillen extended their lead to 23-14, before Doran’s decisive run sealed the victory.

Looking Ahead

This win marks Bishop Amat’s first consecutive victories of the season, a notable achievement as they prepare for their next challenge against the undefeated national powerhouse, Sierra Canyon. The Lancers now have the opportunity to secure a playoff position, a critical milestone for any high school football team.

“This means everything,” Coach Minor stated, reflecting on the significance of back-to-back wins. “We said if guys stay focused, stay committed, we can get it done, and we did.” As the Lancers look to continue their momentum, Doran’s performance has certainly positioned them as a formidable force in the league.
