Renaissance Theatre Reopens in Ivanhoe Village with Festivities

The Renaissance Theatre Co. has officially reopened in Ivanhoe Village as of the evening of March 13, 2026. After facing permitting issues that led to its closure last autumn, the theatre company has successfully completed its final inspections with the city, allowing it to resume operations at its original location.

The Renaissance Theatre has not been idle during its hiatus. The nomadic theatre group hosted various events, including Halloween festivities and drag shows at different venues throughout the city. In late November, they secured a temporary home on Church Street, where they held performances such as *Mean Girls* and viewing parties for *RuPaul’s Drag Race*.

Resolving the permitting issues required persistent efforts from the theatre staff. By the end of January, the Renaissance Theatre announced that upgrades and permitting applications were nearing completion, signaling an imminent return to their Princeton Street headquarters.

To celebrate the reopening, the Renaissance Theatre has planned a “Homecoming” series of events running from March 13 through the following weekend. This celebration will feature parties, drag performances, and a reception, marking a significant milestone for the company as it begins its sixth year. Creative director Donald Rupe expressed excitement about the reopening, stating, “It’s a chance to come back home and be with one another while we work toward what’s next artistically. We’re starting our sixth year with a newfound appreciation of what we have, and we’re looking forward to a ‘re-Renaissance’ of sorts.”

The festivities commenced with the “Un-Condemned” party on March 13. Additional events include *Myki on Myki* viewing parties on March 15 and 21, *A Taste of La Mami* featuring Orusha San Miguel on March 17, and a special reception on March 20. The series will culminate in the “Re-Renaissance” events on March 20 and 21.

Tickets for the Homecoming events can be purchased through the Renaissance Theatre’s website. The production of *Mean Girls* will continue at the temporary Church Street location until March 15, with more events anticipated in the coming weeks. The Renaissance Theatre Co. welcomes the community back to experience the vibrant arts scene it aims to foster.
