A woman identified as ML, 35, has been charged with illegal production and distribution of cosmetics under the brand LC Beauty in Indonesia. The decision was made by the Drug Crime Directorate of the National Police of Indonesia (Bareskrim Polri). Notably, ML will not be detained due to her pregnancy, which is currently at nine weeks.
During a press conference on March 5, 2026, the Director of the Drug Crime Directorate, Brigjen Eko Hadi Santoso, explained that the authorities decided against holding ML in custody based on her medical condition. He stated, “The suspect, Sister ML, has not been detained considering she is positively pregnant and is currently post-operative.”
The investigation began after police obtained substantial evidence indicating that ML was involved in the unauthorized production of cosmetics containing dangerous ingredients. The findings suggest that ML played a dual role as both the distributor and owner of an illicit home-based cosmetics operation.
According to Eko, this case highlights significant concerns regarding public safety due to the potential risks associated with unregulated cosmetic products. Authorities are keen to address the growing trend of illegal cosmetics in the market, which can pose health hazards to consumers.
In light of this incident, health officials are urging the public to remain vigilant when purchasing cosmetic products, especially those not approved by regulatory bodies. The case against ML serves as a reminder of the importance of compliance with health and safety regulations in the cosmetics industry.
As the investigation continues, police are expected to gather more evidence and possibly expand their inquiry into the distribution network of LC Beauty. This case is part of a broader effort by Indonesian authorities to combat illegal drug and cosmetic production and ensure consumer safety.
