Julia Letlow Assembles Experienced Team for Senate Bid

Congresswoman Julia Letlow has announced her senior campaign team for the upcoming U.S. Senate race, featuring a blend of prominent figures and seasoned political operatives familiar to Louisiana voters. Letlow’s candidacy is aimed at unseating incumbent Senator Bill Cassidy in the May 5, 2024 Republican primary. She entered the race in January, following an endorsement from former President Donald Trump.

Key Campaign Figures and Strategy

At the helm of Letlow’s campaign is former Republican Congressman Ralph Abraham, who will serve as campaign chair. Abraham, a physician, recently resigned from his position at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control to care for a family member in Richland Parish. His previous roles include serving as Louisiana’s health secretary and surgeon general, as well as a gubernatorial candidate in 2019.

“Julia Letlow has demonstrated principled leadership and a tireless commitment to Louisiana,” Abraham stated. “She is the proven conservative fighter our state needs in the U.S. Senate, and I am proud to lead the effort to help send her there.”

Letlow’s campaign strategy will be overseen by Kyle Ruckert, the former chief of staff for Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry. Ruckert also maintains his role in Landry’s re-election campaign as chair of the political group Protect Louisiana Values. He previously served as chief of staff for former Louisiana Republican Senator David Vitter.

In addition to Ruckert, Letlow has appointed Andrew Bautsch, a close ally, as senior adviser. Bautsch has extensive experience, having previously been the executive director of the Louisiana Republican Party and serving as a senior adviser during Letlow’s tenure in Congress. He also supported Letlow’s late husband, Luke Letlow, who passed away from COVID-19 shortly after winning his congressional seat.

Comprehensive Campaign Team

Letlow’s campaign team also features several key members, each bringing specialized expertise to the effort. Tony Fabrizio from Fabrizio, Lee & Associates will serve as the lead pollster, while John Brabender from BrabenderCox will handle media relations. Other notable team members include Ryan Smith for direct mail, Parker Carey as campaign manager, and Katherine Thordahl as communications director.

Letlow emphasized the qualifications of her team, stating, “Each of these individuals brings experience, integrity, and a deep dedication to securing our border, unleashing American energy, growing our economy, and protecting Louisiana families.”

As the primary approaches, Letlow’s campaign will likely focus on her vision for the state and her ability to connect with constituents. The competitive nature of the Republican primary, especially with John Fleming also in the race, sets the stage for a dynamic election season in Louisiana.
