Patrick Walters, a notable figure behind the acclaimed series Heartstopper, has joined A24’s UK television division from See-Saw Films. This strategic move aims to enhance A24’s global television portfolio, reflecting the studio’s commitment to expanding its creative offerings in the competitive landscape of streaming content.
Walters, who has been instrumental in the success of Heartstopper, which has achieved significant acclaim and an Emmy win, will work from A24’s London office. He joins a dynamic senior management team that includes Laura Lankester and Will Johnston, both of whom were recently appointed to lead the studio’s UK operations under the guidance of Piers Wenger and Rose Garnett.
Walters’ Notable Career and Upcoming Projects
Before his transition to A24, Walters played a pivotal role at See-Saw Films, where he joined in 2014 and led the in-house label Fanboy. His tenure there featured a variety of high-profile projects, including the Netflix sensation Heartstopper, which stars actors Kit Connor and Joe Locke. The show has completed three successful seasons, with a feature-length finale expected to debut later this year.
In addition to Heartstopper, Walters has produced Sweetpea for Sky Atlantic and Starz, which is currently in post-production for its second season and features Ella Purnell. He has also contributed to other noteworthy series, such as The Essex Serpent for Apple TV+, starring Claire Danes and Tom Hiddleston, and development projects like The North Water for BBC Two and Slow Horses for Apple TV+.
A24’s Ambitious Slate of Television Productions
A24 is currently preparing a diverse slate of television projects, including Major Players by Molly Manning Walker for Channel 4, The Husbands by Miriam Battye for Apple TV+, and It Gets Worse by Leo Reich for Channel 4. Other anticipated productions include Michaela Coel‘s First Day On Earth for BBC and HBO, and Alice Birch‘s The Ministry of Time for BBC. Additional series such as Dreaming Whilst Black and Such Brave Girls are also on the horizon.
A24’s broader television initiatives include the upcoming season of Euphoria on HBO, Beef on Netflix, and Margo’s Got Money Troubles on Apple TV+. Recently, the studio launched its first unscripted series, Neighbors, on HBO, which has achieved the status of the highest-rated unscripted series in HBO Max’s history.
As A24 continues to strengthen its presence in the television sector, Walters’ expertise and vision are expected to play a crucial role in the studio’s expansion and creative direction.
