Born in Montclair, New Jersey, Susanne moved to Lake Forest with her family in 1960. She attended Lake Forest High School, graduating in 1977, before earning a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Hillsdale College in 1981. Following her education, she began her career in marketing with Jim Beam, but her passion for design eventually led her to work with Showhomes in San Diego, California.

Susanne was known for her keen eye for design and her natural sense of style. Friends and family often remarked on her ability to notice beauty and detail in everyday life.
