NASCAR Advances Daytona 500 Start Time Due to Weather Concerns

NASCAR has announced that the start time for the Daytona 500 has been moved up by one hour due to the forecast of inclement weather. The iconic race, part of the NASCAR Cup Series and often referred to as “The Great American Race,” will now commence at 2:13 p.m. ET on March 3, 2024, at the Daytona International Speedway.

William Byron Aims for Historic Third Victory

This year’s event marks the 68th running of the Daytona 500. Driver William Byron is seeking to make history by becoming the first individual to win the race three consecutive times. Byron triumphed in last year’s edition after a dramatic finish. He capitalized on a multi-car crash that occurred when race leader Denny Hamlin was spun out on the final lap, allowing Byron to pass eight cars and secure his victory.

Kyle Busch has claimed the pole position for this year’s race, achieving his first-ever Daytona 500 pole during qualifying held on Wednesday. As he prepares to participate in his 21st Daytona 500, Busch is looking to break what is currently the longest winless streak among active drivers in the series.

Weather Impact on Race Day

The decision to advance the race start is a precautionary measure in response to weather forecasts that suggest possible rain and storms later in the day. NASCAR officials aim to ensure that the race proceeds without significant delays or interruptions, which could arise from adverse weather conditions.
