BREAKING: Bethune-Cookman University will officially inaugurate Albert Mosley as its eighth president on April 14, 2024, marking a significant moment in the university’s history. The ceremony will take place at the Mary McLeod Bethune Performing Arts Center at 10 a.m., with doors opening at 9 a.m..
This announcement comes after Mosley has served in his role since July 2023. He previously held the presidency at Morningside University in Iowa and brings over 30 years of leadership experience in academia and nonprofit sectors. Mosley, who is 53 years old, is also an ordained minister, aligning with the university’s strong ties to the United Methodist Church, which was founded by Mary McLeod Bethune.
In a heartfelt statement, Mosley expressed, “Dr. Bethune built this university on faith, determination and an unshakable belief in the potential of her students. As we honor her legacy, we are recommitting ourselves to ensuring Bethune-Cookman remains a place where opportunity is created, nurtured and sustained for generations to come.”
Mosley’s inaugural events will kick off with a concert featuring the B-CU Concert Chorale and the B-CU Symphonic Band on April 12 at 4 p.m.. This concert will also be held at the Mary McLeod Bethune Performing Arts Center, with doors opening at 3 p.m..
The following day, April 13, Mosley will lead a community service initiative, mobilizing hundreds of volunteers to support around 50 nonprofit organizations across Daytona Beach and Volusia County.
Highlighting the festivities, the Presidential Inaugural Scholarship Gala will also take place on April 13 at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort. This gala will feature a keynote address by Michael Lomax, President and CEO of the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), alongside a performance by Grammy Award-winning artist Yolanda Adams.
