Great American Outdoor Show Thrills with Diverse Attractions in Harrisburg

The Great American Outdoor Show has officially commenced at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, running from February 9 to 15, 2024. Organized by the National Rifle Association (NRA), this event is the largest consumer sports and outdoor show globally, showcasing an extensive array of outdoor activities, products, and entertainment.

This year’s show features over 1,100 exhibitors spread across nine halls, covering more than 650,000 square feet. With the discontinuation of the Greater Philadelphia Sports Show, the Great American Outdoor Show has become the premier event for enthusiasts in the region. Attendees can explore everything from firearms and hunting gear to fishing tackle, boats, and RVs.

Activities and Attractions for All Ages

Among the highlights, visitors can engage with more than 400 outfitters and charter boat captains, ideal for those planning outdoor adventures. The show also includes the popular Hawg Tank and the Dock Dogs, known for their thrilling jumping competitions. Additionally, the Eddie Eagle Kid’s Zone offers free activities designed to entertain younger visitors, including wildlife identification, arts and crafts, face painting, and a basketball court. The Kid’s Zone is open throughout the nine days of the show, ensuring families have ample opportunities for entertainment.

The Kids Casting Contest, hosted by Capital City Bassmaster volunteers, will teach children casting techniques and allow them to compete in friendly challenges on February 14 and 15. For archery fans, the 3D bowhunter challenge and shooting lanes will be available, providing hands-on experience and expert guidance.

Educational Seminars and Exciting Competitions

Educational opportunities abound at the Great American Outdoor Show, with over 200 seminars led by outdoor experts covering a range of topics, including hunting, trapping, and cooking with wild game. Firearms enthusiasts will appreciate the “Wall of Guns” raffle, where participants can win one of over 40 firearms on display. Ticket holders have a unique chance to win with only 100 entries available at a time, enhancing the odds for those eager to participate.

The NRA Air Gun Range also invites families to learn shooting techniques in a safe environment, featuring various airsoft stations and targets. This interactive setup is designed to educate and entertain participants of all ages.

A standout event this year is the 9th Annual NRA Country Concert on February 13, featuring performances by Zach Williams and Megan Woods. Following this, the Brunette World Tour will host a concert on February 14, showcasing Tucker Wetmore and special guest Larry Fleet.

The show also includes the PA Taxidermy Association Competition, where professionals and hobbyists display their work, highlighting the art and skill involved in taxidermy.

Another notable feature is the Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association’s (POWA) Annual Sportsman’s Auction, taking place on the final day, February 15. This event, now in its 41st year, benefits the Kermit Henning Youth Educational Grant Program, funding initiatives that engage young people in outdoor activities. To date, the auction has raised nearly $500,000 for various outdoor educational programs.
