Community Mourns the Passing of Andrew “Big Dog” Joiner VI

Andrew Jackson Joiner VI, affectionately known as “Big Dog,” passed away on February 2, 2026, leaving a profound impact on his family and community. Born on August 23, 1949, in Ada, Oklahoma, to Louise and Andrew Jackson Joiner V, he spent his formative years in Ellinwood, Kansas, before establishing roots in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Joiner’s life was characterized by a strong commitment to faith, hard work, and a deep devotion to his family.

Joiner attended Ellinwood High School, where he excelled both socially and athletically. He was an active participant in football, basketball, track and field, golf, and baseball, showcasing his competitive spirit. His leadership skills were evident as he served as President of the student council during his senior year. Following high school, he pursued further education at Oklahoma State University Tech in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, graduating with a degree that paved the way for a successful career.

For 34 years, Joiner dedicated himself to the oil and gas industry, working at Crawley Petroleum. He earned a reputation for his integrity, extensive knowledge, and work ethic, becoming a respected figure in the field. Even after retiring, he continued to offer his expertise as a part-time consultant, further solidifying his professional legacy.

Community Engagement and Family Legacy

Joiner’s commitment to service extended beyond his career. He was a dedicated Deacon at the First Baptist Church and contributed to the community by serving as a School Board Member in Fairview, Oklahoma. Alongside his best friend, David Blundell, he co-founded the Major Co. Oil and Gas Association, which provided thousands of dollars in scholarships to high school seniors in Major County. This initiative aimed to invest in the future of young individuals, reflecting Joiner’s belief in the importance of education and community support.

An adventurous spirit, Joiner enjoyed riding his trike across the country, appreciating the beauty of the open road. He frequently traveled in his RV, reveling in camping experiences at the lake, where evenings were filled with board games and camaraderie among friends. Above all, Joiner was a devoted family man. He made it a priority to support his children and grandchildren in their athletic and personal pursuits, taking immense pride in their achievements.

Joiner is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Joiner, and a large family, including children Scott (Johnnie) Mead, Steffanie (Steve) Hendricks, Jack (Cynthia) Joiner VII, Ty (Shelly) Joiner, Casey (Vanessa) Joiner, and Kelly Joiner. He also leaves behind his daughter-in-law, Tamra Stephens, brother Don (Rosie) Joiner, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the joy of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Chris Gresham, brothers Kevin and Mike Joiner, and son Bradley Stephens.

A Lasting Impact on Family and Community

A celebration of Joiner’s life will take place at a later date in Weatherford, Oklahoma, with his ashes to be interred at Lakin Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood, Kansas. Joiner’s legacy is one of faith, service, and generosity, a life well-lived that will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His big personality and generous heart left an indelible mark, earning the affection of many who described him as “world famous and widely known.”
