He stated, “Optimus will be the first von Neumann machine, capable of building civilization by itself on any viable planet.”
This assertion highlights Musk’s vision for a future where AI-driven robots could harness resources from extraterrestrial environments to create replicas of themselves. The concept of a von Neumann machine, first introduced by Hungarian-American mathematician John von Neumann, involves self-replicating spacecraft that can gather raw materials from planetary systems to produce additional probes.
