The wrestling team from Bemidji High School showcased impressive talent at the Orono Invitational on March 16, 2024, where five out of six participating wrestlers secured victories in their respective brackets. The Lumberjacks finished third overall with a total of 343.5 points, trailing behind New Prague with 515 points and Maple Grove at 357 points.
Among the standout performances, Ozzie Hanks clinched first place in the 107-pound weight class, maintaining an undefeated record of 4-0. Following closely, Owen Bieber also excelled, finishing unbeaten at 3-0 in the 114-pound category. The success didn’t stop there; regular winners Gabe Morin and Nick Strand continued to impress, dominating their classes at 133 and 139 pounds, respectively.
Morin achieved a remarkable record of 3-0, which included two wins by technical fall and a bye. Strand, on the other hand, went 4-0, showcasing his prowess with two pins and another victory by technical fall. Rounding out the first-place finishers for the Lumberjacks, Nehemiah Schwinghammer secured victory in the heavyweight class at 285 pounds, finishing with a flawless 3-0 record.
The only other BHS wrestler to earn a place was Jeremy Linn, achieving fourth position in the 152-pound category. The strong overall performance by the team reflects their dedication and skill as they continue to compete at a high level.
