A puppy from Alberta, Canada, has captured the hearts of social media users with his unique underbite, which his owner initially described as “slight.” Arvo, an Australian shepherd mix who will celebrate his third birthday in March 2024, was rescued as a puppy after being found under a porch. His owner, Erika, shared the heartwarming story with Newsweek, detailing how the dog’s charm has turned him into a viral sensation.
When Erika and her family adopted Arvo, they were informed by the previous owner that he had a minor underbite. “The lady we got him from told us after his first checkup that he had a slight underbite,” Erika explained. Their veterinarian supported this assessment, stating that the underbite was barely noticeable. However, as Arvo grew, his distinctive feature became more pronounced.
Growth of a Distinctive Grin
At around four months old, Arvo’s bottom lip began to protrude noticeably, prompting Erika to reconsider the initial assessment. “We could no longer deny that it maybe wasn’t so slight after all,” she remarked. Interestingly, Arvo’s father also had a mild underbite, a characteristic that initially drew Erika to him. “I remember saying, ‘Oh, I hope you look just like your dad.’ And here we are,” she added.
Despite the dramatic appearance of his underbite, which has evolved into an endearing grin, Arvo has not faced any challenges because of it. Instead, his unique smile has become a defining feature. Arvo now boasts thousands of followers on TikTok, where his daily adventures are shared, showcasing his playful personality and lovable grin. One of his videos has amassed over 1.8 million views, highlighting the widespread appeal of his quirky looks.

Erika noted that many passersby often stop to compliment Arvo on his smile, suggesting they create a dedicated social media page for him. “We’ve had a few people stop us on the street to comment on his smile and tell us we should start a page for him,” she said. The positivity surrounding Arvo’s unique feature is reflected in the comments on TikTok, with one user stating, “Never seen this page or dog but you got a new follower now just because of those teefs.” Another playful comment read, “The vet’s right…I don’t notice anything.”
The love and support from the online community have left Erika feeling overwhelmed. “I have been blown away by the love for our guy,” she expressed. “People have been so kind, and it is so much fun seeing all the other dogs with goofy toofs out there.”
