Lakers Secure Fifth Place at Section 5A True Team Meet

The Detroit Lakes boys swim and dive team achieved a commendable fifth place at the Section 5A True Team Meet held at the University of Minnesota Morris on January 18, 2024. The Lakers accumulated a total of 574 team points during the competition, showcasing several impressive individual performances.

In the relay events, Detroit Lakes secured sixth place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:55.13. The relay team included swimmers Benjamin Mathiason, Zac Westholter, Alex Mack, and Henry Mathiason. In the individual events, Benjamin Mathiason stood out by clinching the second-fastest time in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:09.65.

The Lakers also excelled in the freestyle events. Henry Mathiason finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.56, while he placed eighth in the 100-yard freestyle at 54.83. In the diving competition, Lucas Lundberg earned a commendable third place with a score of 342.00, with teammate Kade Muff finishing seventh at 250.45.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Alex Mack secured fifth place with a time of 1:04.11. Additionally, the Lakers continued to demonstrate their strength in the relay competitions, finishing fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:39.97, featuring swimmers Mack, Benjamin, Andrew Barberg, and Henry Mathiason.

The team will compete next in Fergus Falls on January 20, 2024, as they look to build on their recent performances. The overall team scores for the meet were led by Sartell with 1231 points, followed by Melrose-Sauk Centre with 1115, and Fergus Falls with 981. The detailed standings are as follows:
