New 335-Unit Apartment Complex Approved in Birmingham’s Parkside

UPDATE: The Birmingham Design Review Committee has just granted conceptual approval for a new apartment complex in Birmingham’s Parkside. The proposed development, known as Sherman Multifamily, is set to feature 335 units and aims to transform the site formerly occupied by Sherman Industries at 1110 Second Avenue South.

The project, designed by Fifth Dimension Architecture & Interiors, includes a five-story structure alongside a parking garage of the same height. This ambitious plan was revealed during a committee meeting on Wednesday, marking a significant step forward in urban development for the area.

Residents can expect a host of amenities designed to enhance their living experience. The complex will feature east and west interior courtyards, a pool, pavilion, dog park, and various outdoor spaces. Additional conveniences include leasing offices, mail rooms, coworking spaces, fitness and yoga studios, and a clubroom—all located on the first floor. A rooftop amenity terrace promises stunning views and a relaxing environment for residents to enjoy.

The approval signifies an important milestone in Birmingham’s efforts to expand housing options in the city. Abraham Odrezin, a landscape architect with the City of Birmingham, confirmed the committee’s decision, highlighting the project’s potential to boost the local economy and provide modern living spaces.

Final approval for the Sherman Multifamily project is expected to be discussed at a future meeting, with community leaders and residents eagerly watching the developments. This project not only aims to provide new housing but also represents a commitment to enriching the lifestyle of those living in Birmingham’s Parkside.
