Dan Ericson, a lifelong resident of the South Bay, passed away peacefully at his home in Hermosa Beach on December 12, 2025, at the age of 77. Surrounded by his loved ones, Ericson is remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and mentor who positively impacted many lives throughout his journey.
Born on October 26, 1948, Dan grew up in the coastal communities of Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach. Raised by his mother, Virginia Ericson, he demonstrated his competitive spirit early on, excelling in athletics at Aviation High School. During his time there, he was recognized as Homecoming King and distinguished himself in both baseball and basketball.
A Life of Service and Commitment
After completing his education at El Camino College, Dan was “recruited off the beach” to play volleyball at San Diego State University. His athletic career was complemented by a period of service as a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, where he demonstrated leadership and commitment.
Transitioning from a brief career in the aerospace industry, Dan found his true vocation in real estate. Over the decades, he built a respected business in the South Bay. Known for his integrity and generosity, Dan became a mentor to young realtors, imparting the importance of conducting business with honesty and heart.
In 1980, Dan married Cetha Walkington at Neighborhood Church. Together, they nurtured a family rooted in love and community. Dan was a dedicated father to their two children, Sten and Kirstin, and embraced his role as a grandfather to Jan, Sebastian, Andersson, and Anaise.
A Legacy of Kindness and Humor
Known for his gentle spirit and clever sense of humor, Dan delighted friends and family with his wordplay and quick wit. His jokes often caught people off guard, always delivered with warmth and an unmistakable smile. In his younger years, he enjoyed surfing, fishing, and sailing, reflecting an easygoing, ocean-inspired lifestyle that remained with him throughout his life.
A parishioner of American Martyrs Church for over 40 years, Dan maintained a deep connection to the community he cherished. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Cetha, who passed away earlier.
Dan is survived by his children and grandchildren, who will carry on his legacy of kindness and integrity. A funeral Mass and celebration of life will take place at American Martyrs Church in Manhattan Beach on January 26, 2026, at 10:30 am. The family has also organized a paddle out, scheduled for 10:00 am on January 25, 2026, at 25th Street in Hermosa Beach, inviting all to join in honoring Dan’s memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Jimmy Miller Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing ocean therapy programs to veterans and their families.
