Dwayne Johnson’s ZOA Energy Agrees to $3 Million Settlement

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s energy drink brand, ZOA Energy, has agreed to a settlement of $3 million in a class action lawsuit filed in California. The lawsuit, initiated on October 23, 2023, alleged that ZOA Energy misled consumers by claiming its drinks were preservative-free while containing chemical preservatives such as citric acid and ascorbic acid.

According to reports from USA Today, ZOA’s settlement comes without an admission of wrongdoing. Court documents assert, “ZOA denies these allegations and maintains that its labeling and marketing are truthful, accurate, and compliant with applicable law.”

The lawsuit highlighted that consumers who purchased ZOA products between March 1, 2021, and November 21, 2025, under the impression that they were preservative-free could claim compensation. Those eligible must provide proof of purchase to receive a larger portion of the settlement. However, customers lacking such proof can still claim $1 per energy drink, up to a maximum of $10 per household.

While the settlement offers some financial relief to affected customers, it remains to be seen how many individuals will participate. Claims must be filed by February 20, 2025, to ensure eligibility for the compensation.

Final approval for the settlement is scheduled for March 26, which means there is still a chance for further developments regarding ZOA Energy’s resolution of this legal matter.

For many consumers, the payout may seem modest, but it represents a form of redress for those who felt misled by the marketing of ZOA Energy drinks. The ongoing scrutiny of product labeling and consumer rights continues to be a relevant topic in the beverage industry.
