Warwick Davis, known for his role in the original Harry Potter films, has confirmed he will return for the upcoming HBO reboot. In a recent interview, Davis expressed excitement about how the new television series will offer a more detailed exploration of J.K. Rowling’s beloved books, addressing some of the concerns fans had regarding the film adaptations.
Davis spoke to Time Radio about the production, revealing that filming for the series began in July 2025. He emphasized that the TV show aims to present a narrative that is both “faithful” to the source material and more comprehensive than what was depicted in the films. “They’re retelling the stories told by the films, but with more depth and detail than has been seen before,” he stated, highlighting the creative team’s commitment to closely following the original narrative.
Fans Anticipate a Richer Storytelling Experience
The actor’s remarks resonate with fans who have voiced dissatisfaction over significant plot elements omitted in the movie adaptations starring Daniel Radcliffe. Davis acknowledged the familiarity of revisiting the stories, noting that he and his fellow cast members are experiencing “similar moments” on set as they recreate the magic of the original films. “It’s weird being back in the same studios again, doing it all again, because Leavesden is where we shot the films,” he added.
The new series is scheduled for release in 2027, with filming for Season 1 expected to last until Spring 2026. Production plans for Season 2 are already underway, with writing having commenced as of November 2025. HBO chairman and CEO Casey Bloys confirmed in a press interview that the two seasons will be filmed back-to-back, ensuring continuity. He stated that while there would be a “break” between the productions, the creative team aims to minimize any significant gap for viewers.
A Promising Cast and Production Details
Alongside Davis, the series will feature a talented ensemble cast including Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, Arabella Stanton, John Lithgow, Nick Frost, Janet McTeer, and Paapa Essiedu. The commitment to a detailed adaptation has generated optimism among fans eager for a richer storytelling experience that aligns more closely with the books.
As anticipation builds for the series, Davis’s insights provide a glimpse into a project that seeks to honor the depth of Rowling’s work, promising a fresh take that could satisfy long-time fans of the franchise. The upcoming HBO series aims not only to rekindle the magic of the original films but also to delve deeper into the narrative, potentially reshaping the Harry Potter legacy for a new generation.
