Cynthia Erivo’s New Song “No Place Like Home” Revealed in Wicked

UPDATE: The highly anticipated song “No Place Like Home” from Wicked: For Good, featuring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, has been unveiled, sparking excitement among fans. The film, released on November 21, 2025, follows the journey of Elphaba and Glinda, played by Ariana Grande, as they navigate their complex relationship in the magical land of Oz.

The original composition by Stephen Schwartz offers a deep dive into Elphaba’s motivations against the backdrop of a fraudulent Wizard. Schwartz revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the song’s concept was inspired by writer Winnie Holtzman, emphasizing the struggle of Animals in Oz. “Animals would be trying to escape, and that Elphaba would come upon them and try to persuade them not to,” Schwartz explained.

The song underwent significant changes throughout the creative process, with Schwartz admitting, “There was more of the song written than wound up in the movie.” The initial vision included Elphaba returning to her childhood home in Munchkinland, but this was ultimately cut to focus on her poignant connection to the Animals.

Schwartz stressed the importance of understanding Elphaba’s sacrifices, stating, “It was really important…that we understand how much she loved Oz, despite the fact that it doesn’t show a lot of love to her.” Erivo echoed this sentiment, describing the song as “a discovery as to why she can continue.”

As buzz around “No Place Like Home” builds, the song is already a contender for Best Original Song at the Golden Globe Awards and is expected to be nominated for the Academy Awards.

Fans eager to experience the magic can now rent or buy Wicked: For Good digitally, with plans to stream on Peacock in the future. However, the exact streaming release date has yet to be announced.
