David Anthony Gilles, 66, Remembered for Dedication and Humor

David Anthony Gilles, a dedicated family man and respected manager, passed away at the age of 66, surrounded by his loved ones. He died peacefully on an undisclosed date, leaving behind a legacy defined by hard work and humor.

Born on April 27, 1959, in Glendale, California, to William and Carol Gilles, Dave grew up in a nurturing environment that fostered his strong work ethic. After graduating from Bishop Montgomery High School, he pursued further education at community colleges in Torrance, California, and Pasco, Washington.

In 1980, David married Nancy Erd and the couple later moved to Richland, Washington, where they raised four children. Known for his commitment to family, Dave was a tireless provider and caregiver. He enjoyed the support of his wife and children throughout his life.

Dave began his impressive career at the Hanford Nuclear Site as a bus driver. His dedication and skill allowed him to progress through various managerial roles, ultimately retiring as the Manager of Retrieval Operations at the Tank Farms. His work contributed significantly to the site’s operations and safety protocols.

In 2023, David and Nancy relocated to Sandpoint, Idaho, where they enjoyed their newly built home. His family described him as a patient teacher and a hard worker whose reserved demeanor often masked a quick wit and clever sense of humor. “If he was busting your chops, chances are he liked you,” a family member remarked, illustrating the warmth he brought to those around him.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, and their four children: Darlene (Jose) Bejar, Wendy, David (Juliana), and Heather. Additionally, he leaves behind eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, as well as his brother, William (Roni).

David was preceded in death by his parents, who instilled in him the values of hard work and integrity. His family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Tri-Cities Cancer Center Foundation, reflecting his desire to help others during his lifetime.

An online memorial is available for those wishing to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a devoted husband, father, and friend.
