Seven Juveniles Injured in Ocean County Flash Fire on New Year’s Eve

UPDATE: A flash fire erupted at an outdoor fire pit in Berkeley Township, New Jersey, injuring seven juveniles on New Year’s Eve. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. at a residence on North Trenton Avenue, as confirmed by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

Investigators report that the group was gathered for celebrations when the fire suddenly flared up, leading to immediate panic and injuries. First responders quickly transported two victims to Community Medical Center in Toms River, while the parents of a third victim rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Fortunately, all three were treated and released shortly thereafter.

The remaining four juveniles were released to their parents at the scene and did not seek further medical attention. Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the homeowner, nor whether any adults were present during the incident.

The cause of the flash fire remains under investigation by a collaborative team including the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Arson Squad, the Berkeley Township Police Department Detective Bureau, the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
