URGENT UPDATE: Authorities in San Antonio, Texas, have discovered a body “very close” to the home of 19-year-old Camila Mendoza Olmos, who has been missing since Christmas Eve. The body was found shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, igniting intense concern as search efforts were underway for the teen.
According to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, the body was located in an area previously searched by law enforcement. It was found approximately 100 yards from Olmos’ residence in northwest Bexar County, in tall grass that had been overlooked in earlier searches. The clothing on the body closely resembles what Olmos was reported to be wearing when she disappeared.
“This is certainly not the outcome we were hoping for,” Sheriff Salazar stated during a press conference. As of now, the body has not been officially identified, and authorities have yet to determine the manner or cause of death. Sheriff Salazar did mention that he does not currently suspect foul play in Olmos’ disappearance.
Earlier on Tuesday, officials released dash cam footage showing a person believed to be Olmos walking along the side of a road. Though the video was captured in low light, the individual appeared to wear clothing matching the description of Olmos’ outfit: a baby-blue and black hoodie, baby-blue pajama bottoms, and white shoes.
Authorities previously reviewed a neighbor’s doorbell camera footage showing someone resembling Olmos searching her car for an unknown item just before her disappearance. Reports indicate that Olmos left her home only with her car keys and possibly her driver’s license.
Sheriff Salazar revealed that investigators have “indications of suicidal ideations” from Olmos in the past, alongside “some depression issues.” While he refrained from linking these factors directly to her disappearance, he emphasized the need to explore all possibilities: “What young person doesn’t have bouts of depression at a certain point? We can’t necessarily afford to just say: ‘Oh, well, that must be what it is,'” he remarked.
The discovery of the body brings a tragic turn to a case that has captured local and national attention. As authorities work to confirm the identity and circumstances surrounding the body, the community remains on edge, hoping for answers in this heartbreaking situation.
