Drew Brees and Larry Fitzgerald Lead Class of 2026 Hall of Fame Finalists

The Pro Football Hall of Fame has revealed that former NFL stars Drew Brees, Larry Fitzgerald, and Frank Gore are among the 15 modern-era finalists for the class of 2026. This announcement, made on December 30, 2023, comes as part of the Hall’s annual selection process, which aims to recognize the contributions of exceptional players to the sport.

Joining Brees, Fitzgerald, and Gore in this elite group are notable names such as Willie Anderson, Jahri Evans, Torry Holt, Luke Kuechly, Eli Manning, Terrell Suggs, Adam Vinatieri, Reggie Wayne, Kevin Williams, Jason Witten, Darren Woodson, and Marshal Yanda. The finalists were chosen from an initial pool of 128 nominees, which was narrowed down to 26 semifinalists announced on November 25, 2023.

The Hall of Fame selection committee will evaluate the 15 modern-era finalists, with the results set to be revealed during the NFL Honors ceremony on February 5, 2026, in San Francisco. The committee has the authority to induct up to five modern-era players into the Hall of Fame. To achieve this, each player must garner a minimum of 80% of the votes.

Notably absent from this year’s list of finalists are several prominent semifinalists, including Philip Rivers, who recently came out of retirement to play for the Indianapolis Colts, Hines Ward of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Steve Smith Sr. from the Carolina Panthers, and Earl Thomas, formerly of the Seattle Seahawks. Their exclusion has raised eyebrows among fans and analysts alike.

In addition to the modern-era finalists, the Hall of Fame also considers candidates in the seniors category. Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots, renowned coach Bill Belichick, and former players Kenny Anderson, Roger Craig, and L.C. Greenwood are among those vying for induction in this category. According to Hall of Fame bylaws, at least one candidate from the seniors group must be elected, with a maximum of three allowed.

The selection process underscores the evolving narrative of professional football, as it recognizes the impact these players have had on the game. As the Hall prepares for the upcoming induction ceremony, anticipation builds around which athletes will ultimately receive the honor of enshrinement in this prestigious institution.
