Kwik Trip, Taco John’s, and New Venues Transform Fargo-Moorhead

UPDATE: Major business developments are transforming the Fargo-Moorhead metro area as 2025 draws to a close. Notably, the arrival of Kwik Trip and Kwik Star convenience stores, the return of Taco John’s, and a surge in indoor entertainment venues are reshaping the local landscape.

On October 9, the first Kwik Trip store opened at 1409 Main Ave. S.E. in Moorhead, followed closely by the inaugural Kwik Star at 2530 12th Ave. S. in Fargo on November 20. To reduce confusion with the competing chain QuikTrip, Kwik Trip operates under the Kwik Star name in North Dakota. Additional locations are planned, including sites at 4177 Crossroads Drive S. and 4500 block of 37th Avenue South in Fargo. Known for their fresh, made-to-order food, Kwik Trip has been recognized as the Best Gas Station Brand for the second consecutive year by USA Today 10 Best Readers’ Choice awards.

In a significant twist for food lovers, Taco John’s is making its comeback in Fargo-Moorhead after more than a year. The largest franchisee, Pentex Restaurant Group, submitted a building permit application on October 10 to renovate a former Taco John’s at 4522 26th Ave. S.. The restaurant is projected to open on January 5, 2026, marking the group’s first Taco John’s in the area, with plans to expand to three locations within the next two years, according to CEO Brett Itterman.

As cannabis legislation evolves, the first off-reservation tribal cannabis shop in Minnesota, Waabigwan Mashkiki, opened its doors on May 24 at 2902 Highway 10 in Moorhead. With recreational cannabis fully legal since August 1, 2023, the shop sources its products from a cultivation facility on the White Earth Reservation. Meanwhile, entrepreneur Darren Dado is converting a former Burger King at 100 21st St. N. into a cannabis dispensary, anticipating a launch in approximately eight weeks, contingent on securing necessary permits.

The entertainment sector is also booming. Levity, a family-friendly venue featuring an arcade, pizza, and ice cream, opened in June at 344 Sheyenne Street in West Fargo. Co-owner Linzey Erickson emphasized the venue’s community spirit with events like “Parent Night Out.”

In November, Slick City Action Park debuted at 3430 Jacks Way S. in Fargo, featuring thrilling slides designed by a former NASA engineer. Furthermore, the highly anticipated NRG Adventure Park is set to open soon at 5100 14th Ave. S., promising unique attractions like a ninja course and foam pit activities tailored for diverse audiences.

These developments are not just reshaping the landscape but also creating excitement and opportunities for residents. The combination of new dining options, recreational facilities, and evolving cannabis legislation underscores a vibrant and rapidly changing business environment in the Fargo-Moorhead region.
