Waynesburg Clinches Victory Over Uniontown in Girls Basketball Final

Waynesburg Central secured a decisive victory against Uniontown with a final score of 52-37 in the girls’ basketball championship of the Carmichaels King Coal Lions Tournament held on Sunday. The team demonstrated a strong performance in the fourth quarter, outscoring Uniontown 12-3 to pull away and clinch the win.

Leading the charge for Waynesburg (8-1) was Tess Pauley, who scored 15 points. She was supported by Payton Cowell with 12 points and Emma Blair contributing 10. Uniontown initially held the advantage, leading 15-12 after the first quarter. However, Waynesburg surged ahead to take a 26-21 lead at halftime and maintained a 39-34 edge going into the final quarter.

On the opposing side, Aierra Jenkins of Uniontown (6-3) was the standout player, scoring a game-high 16 points. Charley Murtha also added 10 points to the team’s total.

Other Tournament Highlights

In the consolation game of the same tournament, Jefferson-Morgan triumphed over Carmichaels with a score of 45-30. Ava Wood led Jefferson-Morgan (5-4) with 19 points, while Brelyn Woods contributed 16 points. The Lady Rockets made a significant comeback after trailing 13-9 at the end of the first quarter, ultimately outscoring their opponents 28-14 in the second half.

For Carmichaels (1-9), Ke’Lani Chun tied for the game-high with 19 points but could not secure a win.

In another competitive matchup, Bethel Park edged past Belle Vernon 39-36 at the Cal U Holiday Tournament. Kat Boff was pivotal for Bethel Park (6-2), scoring 12 points. The Lady Leopards (6-3) were led by Isis Almyty with 11 points and Aubrey Brown following closely with 10 points.

Laurel Highlands also recorded a win against Charleroi with a score of 39-30 at Beth-Center’s Winter Jam Tournament. Obama Academy defeated Albert Gallatin 51-35 to extend their winning streak to five games, while Alldercice dominated Brownsville with a score of 66-18.
