Candlelight Vigil for Fallen Trooper Cpl. Matthew Snook Set for Tonight

UPDATE: A candlelight vigil honoring fallen Delaware State Police trooper Cpl. Matthew “Ty” Snook is set to take place tonight, January 1, 2024, at 7 p.m. The event will be held at the Police Athletic League (PAL) Center, located at 7529 Lancaster Pike in Hockessin. This poignant gathering comes just days after the tragic death of Cpl. Snook, who was shot and killed while on duty.

The vigil offers a chance for the community to come together in support of Snook’s family, including his wife and one-year-old daughter, as they navigate this devastating loss. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP in advance to help organizers manage the turnout effectively.

Cpl. Snook was fatally shot by 44-year-old Rahman Rose at a DMV in Minquadale during an incident last week. In response, a New Castle County officer fatally shot Rose. The gravity of this event highlights the risks faced by law enforcement officers daily.

In addition to the vigil, a celebration of life for Cpl. Snook is scheduled at the University of Delaware’s Bob Carpenter Center on January 5, allowing even more individuals to pay their respects.

Community members are urged to join together at tonight’s vigil to honor a hero who dedicated his life to serving and protecting others. This is an opportunity to show solidarity and support for the family during this incredibly difficult time.

Stay tuned for updates as the community remembers and celebrates the life of Cpl. Snook.
