UPDATE: Boston police have arrested a 40-year-old man for armed robbery following a dramatic incident at a downtown 7-11 convenience store early this morning. The suspect, identified as Michael Waterman, allegedly stole a cash register and threatened police officers, escalating a routine call into a high-stakes situation.
Authorities responded to reports of a breaking and entering in progress at 50 Summer St. just after 5 a.m. on July 14, 2023. Upon arrival, officers discovered the store’s front glass door shattered and the cash register missing. As police were interviewing a store employee, they spotted a man fitting the suspect’s description across the street.
According to the Boston Police Department, when officers attempted to apprehend Waterman, he resisted arrest and made threats against their lives. The department stated, “After multiple de-escalation tactics, the suspect was handcuffed and the stolen merchandise was recovered.”
