Dental Patients Urged to Claim Up to $6,000 from $1.2M Settlement

Dental patients impacted by a recent data breach at First Choice Dental have a limited window to claim compensation from a $1.225 million class action settlement. Individuals affected by the breach can seek up to $6,000 in documented economic losses, but claims must be submitted by January 28, 2024.

The allegations against the dental practice, which operates in Wisconsin, relate to its failure to adequately protect sensitive consumer information during a data breach that occurred in 2023. Although First Choice Dental has not admitted any wrongdoing, the settlement aims to provide restitution to patients whose personal information may have been compromised. This includes names, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, Social Security numbers, financial account details, and health data.

Settlement Details and Claim Process

Under the terms of the settlement, class members can claim compensation for documented losses resulting from the breach. Acceptable forms of evidence include receipts, bank statements, invoices, and other relevant documentation. In addition, those who did not experience any economic losses will still be eligible for a payment of $50.

As part of the settlement agreement, all class members will receive three years of free credit monitoring services, along with $1 million in identity theft protection insurance. This comprehensive support is designed to help mitigate the impact of the breach on patients’ financial security.

The deadline to object to or exclude oneself from the settlement is set for December 29, 2023. To ensure eligibility for compensation, affected individuals must submit a valid claim form online by the January 28 deadline. A final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for January 12, 2024, as part of the standard class action lawsuit process to confirm that the settlement serves the interests of all class members.

Individuals who believe they have been affected by the breach are encouraged to act quickly to secure their claims and protect their personal information.
