UPDATE: Williams College men’s basketball coach Kevin App has just reached a significant milestone, achieving his 200th career win on December 20, 2023. The victory came during a nail-biting match in Daytona Beach, Florida, where the Ephs narrowly defeated Carleton College with a score of 73-71.
This victory marks App as the second coach in Williams men’s basketball history to reach 200 wins, a testament to his dedication and skill over his 11-year tenure. “It was a fun way to cap off the trip,” App said, reflecting on the achievement with humility.
Players celebrated the milestone in enthusiastic fashion. First-year guard Khalil Carlson described the moment as “awesome,” highlighting the surprise celebration that ensued in the locker room after the game. “We had to shower him with water. It was really special to celebrate,” Carlson added.
App’s journey to this milestone began with his 100th win, which he achieved on November 15, 2019, against Worcester State. Since then, he has built an impressive record of 200 wins and 83 losses, solidifying his place among the top coaches in NESCAC history.
In the context of his coaching career, App is now positioned behind only Harry Sheehy, who compiled a record of 324-104 from 1984 to 2000. App has surpassed former coaches Dave Paulsen and Mike Maker, both of whom left their mark on the program with impressive records.
Despite the achievement, App remains focused on the future, expressing that while the milestone was on his radar, his primary concern was the team’s performance and growth. “I think most coaches are locked into whatever that day brings,” he said.
As the Ephs return to Williamstown after their Florida trip, they are set to prepare for a game against Worcester State at Chandler Gym on January 3, 2024. Fans and players alike are eager to see how App will continue to lead the team as they aim for further victories in the season ahead.
