Among them, songwriter and voice actress EJAE, known for her role in the project, discussed her career trajectory, including being dropped from her record label, a pivotal moment that ultimately led to her current achievements.
EJAE’s Journey and Transformation
EJAE, whose real name is Kim Eun-jae, has a long history in the K-pop industry. She started training at the age of 11 and dedicated over a decade to pursuing her dream of becoming a K-pop idol. However, her aspirations took an unexpected turn when she was dropped from her label at the age of 23. Reflecting on this period, she told Deadline, “I never knew that songwriting would ever be a thing for me.”
The transition away from being an idol was not easy for EJAE. After her departure from the label, she faced a period of uncertainty about her future. “I was struggling to find out what I was supposed to do,” she noted. This struggle led her to explore music production, particularly influenced by the vibrant SoundCloud scene, which sparked her passion for creating beats.

She recalled, “They were saying I had to keep posting, I had to go on YouTube because social media was a huge platform to try and make people like you.” However, the pressure and criticisms regarding her appearance weighed heavily on her mental health. EJAE candidly stated, “I don’t have thick skin. I got my feelings hurt when people talked about my appearance.”
Prioritizing her mental well-being became crucial for EJAE, especially after witnessing the tragic loss of friends in the industry. “I thought it was a big sign that I needed to prioritize my mental health,” she explained. This decision ultimately redirected her path towards voice acting and songwriting, leading her to her current role in KPop Demon Hunters. “But look, I’m 33, and I’ve learned my lesson,” she added, expressing gratitude for her journey.

Fellow songwriter Mark Sonnenblick also shared insights about the franchise’s development.
