Rocky Top Man, Two Juveniles Charged for Throwing Rocks at Cars

UPDATE: A 24-year-old Rocky Top man and two juveniles have been charged after allegedly throwing rocks at vehicles on I-75, creating a dangerous situation for motorists. The incidents, occurring between December 19 and 21, 2023, resulted in several vehicles being damaged and drivers endangered, according to the Rocky Top Police Department.

Victims reported significant danger, with one driver, Alisha Owens, recounting a terrifying experience where rocks struck her vehicle. “Just going down the interstate and we saw something falling, it just happened so fast,” she stated. “Somebody’s life could have very easily been taken.” This alarming situation included children in the vehicle, a 2-year-old and a 6-year-old, raising concerns over the potential for tragedy.

Isaiah Bell is facing serious charges, including four counts of aggravated assault, four counts of vandalism, and multiple counts related to reckless endangerment and contributing to juvenile delinquency. The charges were solidified after one juvenile confessed at the police department about their involvement in the reckless actions.

The confession revealed that Bell and the juveniles approached a bridge over I-75 and began throwing rocks at passing vehicles. This reckless behavior could have led to catastrophic consequences. Authorities confirmed that at least one victim sustained a stomach injury from a projectile, underscoring the physical risks involved.

Following these dangerous activities, Rocky Top Police Chief John Thomas highlighted the critical need for parental supervision, especially during school breaks. “Parents should definitely keep an eye on what their kids are doing,” he stressed. “If they decide to engage in reckless acts like this, it could have bigger consequences.”

The community is left shaken, and the police department is urging vigilance among parents to prevent similar incidents in the future. With the potential for further legal action looming, this case serves as a stark reminder of the thin line between juvenile mischief and serious criminal charges.

As investigations continue, authorities are examining the broader implications of this reckless behavior on public safety. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story, as more details are expected to emerge.
