Israel Urges Diaspora Jews to Make Aliyah Amid Terror Wave

UPDATE: In a powerful call to action, Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar has urged Jews living in the Diaspora to make aliyah in response to a shocking rise in antisemitic terror attacks globally. Sa’ar’s plea comes just days after a brutal attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney left 15 people dead.

During a Chanukah candle lighting ceremony, Sa’ar declared, “Today, Jews are being hunted across the world… I call on Jews in England, Jews in France, Jews in Australia, Jews in Canada, Jews in Belgium: come to the Land of Israel! Come home!” His message resonated deeply as he emphasized the urgent need for safety and community in Israel.

The recent violence has been alarming. On December 10, Islamic State-linked gunmen, Naveed Akram, 24, and his father Sajid, 50, opened fire at a Chabad gathering, leading to a massacre that shocked the nation. Naveed, who sustained injuries during the incident and is currently in police custody facing 59 charges, pledged allegiance to ISIS. Tragically, Sajid was killed at the scene.

Sa’ar’s call comes amidst a broader context of increasing antisemitic incidents. Throughout 2024, intelligence reports have linked a series of arson attacks aimed at Jewish sites in Australia to Iranian influence. Additionally, on Yom Kippur, a horrific incident at Heaton Park Synagogue in Manchester resulted in two deaths when a car was rammed into the gates, followed by a stabbing spree.

The statistics paint a grim picture; authorities have recorded a significant uptick in antisemitic hate crimes in the UK, US, and across Europe, particularly after the violent events of October 7 when hostilities escalated in Israel.

Sa’ar’s emotional appeal highlights the deep concerns felt by Jewish communities worldwide. “Why raise your children in this atmosphere?” he asked, urging families to return to their ancestral homeland where they can live with a sense of security and belonging.

As the situation continues to develop, further updates are expected regarding the security measures being implemented in Israel and the response from the international Jewish community. Sa’ar’s message is clear: the time for action is now, as Israel stands ready to welcome those seeking refuge and safety.
