Beloved Musician and Educator Steven Andrew Kovacs Passes Away

Steven Andrew Kovacs, aged 73, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Surrounded by family and friends, Kovacs left a legacy as a passionate educator and musician who touched many lives throughout his career.

Kovacs built a successful career in sales and teaching, notably at Dakota Tech, where he inspired countless students. His enthusiasm for music was nurtured from a young age, leading him to participate in the White Bear Lake High School choir and engage in liturgical music. He later formed several bands, including the Four Coachmen, 1st Things 1st, and the JS Trio, sharing his love for music with a broader audience.

In addition to his musical talents, Kovacs enjoyed woodworking and was an avid sports fan, particularly fond of golf. He cherished time spent with his wife, Deb, at their lake home, where they created lasting memories together.

Kovacs is survived by his wife, Deb; sons, Andrew and Patrick (Megan); grandchildren, Casey and Dylan; sisters, Gail Ward, Sue Pearson, and Jody Jarvis; and brother, John Kovacs. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Kovacs.

A heartfelt thank you is extended to Jody Jarvis, who provided loving assistance to Deb during Kovacs’ home hospice care.
