UPDATE: Soquel High’s boys basketball team delivered an explosive performance, defeating Watsonville High 77-42 in a nonleague game on January 5, 2024. The Knights surged ahead with a commanding lead, showcasing their offensive capabilities after struggling in previous games.
In a matchup held at Soquel, senior center Connor Corlett led the charge with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Knights coach Chris Christensen praised his team’s unselfish play, noting, “We moved the ball better and created open shots for each other.” This victory marks a significant turnaround for Soquel, improving their record to 6-3.
The Knights set the tone early, ending the first quarter with a staggering 29-11 lead and extending it to 48-16 by halftime. Senior Miles Johnson added 14 points, while juniors Ryan Grilli and Mason Esters contributed with nine points each. Grilli was particularly effective, hitting three of the Knights’ 11 three-pointers.
For Watsonville High, senior forward/center Anthony Razo led the team with nine points. Despite the loss, the Wildcatz are set to bounce back as they prepare to host Saint Francis of Mountain View on January 9 at 3 p.m.
Next up, Soquel will face Pacific Grove on January 8 at 7 p.m. This matchup promises to be another test for the Knights as they aim to maintain their winning momentum.
