BREAKING: A significant earthquake swarm rattled the San Ramon area on September 29, 2023, with multiple seismic events recorded within just over 30 minutes, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The first quake struck at 7:41 PM, registering a magnitude of 2.5 and centered just 3.1 miles southeast of the city.
The seismic activity escalated rapidly, with a magnitude 4.0 quake occurring at 7:49 PM, followed closely by another quake of magnitude 3.8 at the same time, both centered 3.1 miles and 2.4 miles southeast of San Ramon, respectively. A second magnitude 4.0 quake followed at 7:56 PM, again nearly 3 miles southeast of the city. The shaking continued with a magnitude 3.1 quake at 7:57 PM and finally a magnitude 2.9 at 8:10 PM, both occurring in close proximity to the earlier quakes.
There are currently no reports of injuries or damage. However, the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system announced that it is operating trains at reduced speeds to conduct safety inspections, leading to potential delays for passengers.
