Sierra Canyon Dominates All-Area Football Team for 2025

The 2025 All-Area Football Team has been announced, showcasing standout players from the Los Angeles region. Leading the accolades is Richard Wesley of Sierra Canyon, named the Defensive Player of the Year for his exceptional performance throughout the season. Wesley’s prowess as a defensive end was evident from the outset, as he consistently disrupted opposing offenses, recording 8.5 sacks and 10 quarterback hurries.

Wesley’s impact transcended statistics. Despite facing double and triple teams, he effectively opened opportunities for his teammates, contributing to a formidable Sierra Canyon defense. The Trailblazers collectively amassed 106 tackles for loss and 44.5 sacks over the season, allowing a mere 43 points across their regular season games. They achieved five shutouts, a testament to their defensive dominance. Wesley even made headlines by scoring a touchdown in his team’s season opener, a moment he described as “surreal.”

Offensive and Coaching Honors

The Offensive Player of the Year title went to Brian Bonner from Valencia. Bonner’s senior year was marked by remarkable achievements, including rushing for 1,051 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also contributed significantly in the air with 525 receiving yards and five touchdowns. His performance was crucial in leading Valencia to the top of the Foothill League and securing a berth in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 playoffs.

Under the guidance of coach Larry Muir, Valencia has seen a resurgence in performance, with Bonner at the forefront. Muir praised Bonner’s contributions, stating, “He’s been a great football player and an outstanding person on our campus.”

The Coach of the Year award was presented to Tom Coate from Grace. Coate played a pivotal role in revitalizing a program that faced significant challenges, including a canceled season in 2021. His leadership facilitated the transition back to 11-man football, and this season, Grace achieved a commendable 11-4 record, culminating in a CIF Southern Section Division 12 championship victory over Santa Paula.

First Team Highlights

The First Team Offense features elite performers, including quarterback Gavin Gray from Agoura, who threw for 3,520 yards and 45 touchdowns while also contributing 230 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. Fellow running backs include Deshonne Redeaux from Oaks Christian, who rushed for 1,447 yards and 15 touchdowns, and Ty Hall from Saugus, who amassed 1,273 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns.

Wide receivers such as Landon Cooper from Grace and Tron Baker from Sierra Canyon also made significant contributions, combining for numerous receptions and touchdowns. The offensive line included top performers like Ben Hatfield from Oaks Christian, recognized as the Marmonte League Offensive Lineman of the Year.

On the defensive side, standout players like Mikhal Johnson from Sierra Canyon and Izak Simpson from Simi Valley were recognized for their exceptional performances, contributing significantly to their teams’ successes.
