Auburn University’s standout linebacker, Xavier Atkins, has further solidified his status as a rising star in college football by receiving three significant postseason honors. This recognition includes being named to the Football Writers Association of America All-America Team, the AFCA coaches All-American, and the Walter Camp All-American team. Atkins’ achievements mark a notable milestone for Auburn, making him the first All-American linebacker since Karlos Dansby in 2003 and the first All-American overall since Roger McCreary in 2021.
Atkins’ impressive sophomore season followed his transfer from LSU. He led the Tigers with 84 tackles and achieved an SEC-best 17 tackles for loss along with nine sacks. His performance earned him the distinction of being the highest-graded linebacker in the country according to Pro Football Focus, where he received a remarkable grade of 91.7. Furthermore, Atkins’ tackle and sack totals ranked third in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
Record-Setting Season
Atkins’ dominance on the field was particularly evident during SEC play, where he compiled thirteen tackles for loss, the highest in the league.
