URGENT UPDATE: The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has announced it will pay off the mortgage for the family of fallen Burnsville firefighter and paramedic Adam Finseth. This gesture comes through their Fallen First Responder Home Program as part of the 2025 Season of Hope, providing critical support to Finseth’s family following his tragic death.
Finseth, aged 40, was killed on February 18, 2024, during a harrowing incident while responding to a domestic violence call. He and two Burnsville police officers, Matt Ruge and Paul Elmstrand, both 27, were ambushed by a gunman. This act of bravery occurred during what was supposed to be Finseth’s day off, showcasing his unwavering dedication to public service.
Finseth, a SWAT medic, rushed to the scene late at night after reports indicated that seven children were at risk inside the home. Burnsville Fire Chief BJ Jungmann honored Finseth’s heroic actions, stating, “He showed his commitment and unwavering dedication when he responded … in the middle of the night.”
During negotiations with the gunman, who was threatening the safety of his girlfriend and children, shots were fired. Finseth was providing medical aid to an officer when he was shot. The assailant ultimately took his own life, but thankfully, the children and the woman were unharmed.
“He acted without hesitation in his last moments,” remarked the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, emphasizing Finseth’s bravery on their official website.
This generous act by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation highlights the community’s commitment to supporting the families of those who make the ultimate sacrifice in protecting others. The foundation, inspired by the events of September 11, 2001, has a long history of aiding first responders and their families across the nation.
As the community mourns the loss of a dedicated hero, the Finseth family will benefit from this significant gesture, ensuring they can focus on healing without the burden of mortgage payments. The foundation’s initiative not only relieves financial pressure but also honors the legacy of those who serve valiantly.
For those wishing to support the Finseth family further, additional fundraising efforts and community support initiatives are likely to emerge in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more updates on how the community continues to rally around this family during their time of need.
