Comedian Amy Schumer and her husband, Chris Fischer, have decided to end their marriage after more than seven years. Schumer announced the news on Instagram on December 12, 2023, sharing a photo of the family riding the subway in New York City.
In her post, Schumer stated, “Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years. We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son. We would appreciate people respecting our privacy at this time.” She emphasized that their separation is amicable, adding, “Family forever.”
Sources close to the couple have confirmed that the split is smooth. According to People magazine, “There’s nothing ugly. It’s a cohesive split. They’ve just been finalizing a few things.” Schumer and Fischer married in February 2018 after beginning their relationship in 2017. They share one child, son Gene, who was born in May 2019.
Rumors about their marriage had circulated recently, prompting speculation about their relationship status. On November 13, a source indicated to People that the couple was “privately working through normal issues that couples in long-term marriages have,” asserting that both were committed to their relationship.
In an Instagram Story shared a week prior, Schumer pushed back against the rumors, stating, “And Chris and I are still married.” She addressed the speculation again in a December 1 post, which also included an update on her health. “Whatever ends up happening with me and Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or autism. Fingers crossed we make it through,” she added, praising Fischer as “the best.”
On November 11, Schumer notably deleted past photos from her Instagram account, including images with Fischer. She later posted, “I actually left my house tonight. Who’s proud? I’m feeling good and happy. Deleted my old pics for no reason!”
The couple was last seen together publicly in June 2025 at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of the documentary Room To Move. As Schumer and Fischer navigate this new chapter in their lives, they remain committed to co-parenting their son in a supportive environment.
