URGENT UPDATE: A semi tractor-trailer erupted in flames on U.S. Highway 52 north of Pine Island, Minnesota, earlier today, but thankfully, no injuries have been reported. The incident occurred around 12:15 p.m. on December 9, 2025, causing significant disruptions to traffic.
According to a statement from the Pine Island Fire Department, firefighters swiftly responded to the scene, where the fire was contained between the cab and trailer of the vehicle. Eyewitnesses report that the driver effectively used a fire extinguisher to control the blaze before emergency crews arrived.
Firefighters deployed two handlines to extinguish the flames, ensuring that the fire did not breach the semi cab. As crews worked to manage the situation, the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 52 were reduced to just one lane, leading to potential traffic delays.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, but officials suspect it may have originated from a tire blowout on the cab, according to the fire department’s report. The extent of the damages remains unknown at this time.
In addition to the Pine Island Fire Department, responders included the Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, and the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office. Their quick action helped prevent any injuries from what could have been a much more serious situation.
Motorists are advised to remain cautious in the area as cleanup efforts continue and traffic conditions stabilize. Stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available regarding this developing situation.
