El Monte Officer Jesus Rojas Wins Prestigious Community Award

UPDATE: El Monte Police Officer Jesus Rojas has just been awarded the prestigious 2025 Centurion Award for Excellence in Community Policing at a ceremony held on October 27, 2025, at the University of California. This recognition marks a historic milestone as it is the first time in 96 years that an officer from the El Monte Police Department has received this esteemed honor.

The award was conferred by the Peace Officers Association of Los Angeles County (POALAC), acknowledging Rojas’s exceptional dedication to his community and proactive policing efforts. “Rojas is completely dedicated to his job,” stated Chief Jake Fisher. “He came to us from our community originally as a police cadet and has remained in our department, currently serving as the Corporal of Community Relations.”

Rojas has been instrumental in enhancing relationships between law enforcement and the community, creating programs that foster engagement among schools, businesses, and residents. His compassionate approach has not only improved public trust but has also cultivated a culture of cooperation in El Monte. “His presence, willingness to engage the community, and inclusive approach has contributed to building public trust,” POALAC officials noted while announcing the award.

In addition to Rojas’s accolade, the El Monte Police Department received recognition for its community initiatives, including the Christmas Holiday Toy Giveaway and Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway. Rojas has played a pivotal role in shaping these significant outreach efforts, which bring families, youth, and officers together for community enrichment.

Jessie Redd, managing director for public safety initiatives at the USC Price Center, praised Rojas for his commitment to community policing. “Officer Rojas deserves recognition because he leads with compassion and shows what community-centered policing should look like,” Redd stated. “What impresses me most is how consistently he shows up for his community, always bringing kindness to the work and everywhere he goes.”

The ceremony on October 27 also honored Jane Ellis, a volunteer recognized for her 18 years of service in the city’s Volunteers Caring and Patrolling Program (VCAP). Meanwhile, the Monrovia Police Department was awarded Excellence in Community Policing for its Community Activists Policing Bureau.

These awards highlight the ongoing commitment of local law enforcement in fostering positive relationships with the community. With Rojas’s leadership and dedication, El Monte continues to set a standard for community policing that prioritizes compassion and trust.
